From P. Frapin:

"MAIDEN VOYAGE. Sails unfurled, vessel crashing through the spume, cognac (tobacco, sandalwood, coriander, nutmeg), sailing to faraway lands. The route of precious spices, cloves, cumin, cardamom, (chili, guaiac wood, patchouli).
A sumptuous and captivating elsewhere.

If cognac lends itself to traveling today, it is because the white wine of Charentes travels badly… The Dutch, who imported it, were the first to distil it: they drank their brandewijn “burnt wine” mixed with water. The people of Cognac then invented a secondary distillation that further concentrated the aromas of this eau de vie. It is in this form, better adapted to long distance travel, that the precious bottles are transported around the world by the caravels, which, in return bring back spices and precious woods from their exotic destinations."
